So some of you may remember how when I was getting ready to open the store I taled about Flicks and Sticks events.

Those of you who don’t remember are currently going “what’s Flicks and Sticks?” right?

Well it’s a movie and you knitting needles (sticks) of course crochet hooks, drop spindles what have you work too!

So what’s the deal exactly?
you come on in to the store, and bring your knitting, a movie and snacks will be provided and you just hang out and knit and watch a flick and have fun.

The store will be open for sales that day, and for each Flicks and Sticks event a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Charity.

February 28th will be our first one (I’m thinking monthly) it’s a Sunday and doors will open at 1:00 and the movie will start at 2:00.

It’s a no charge event, but as I say a portion of all the day’s sales will go to charity, you are also encouraged to donate what you can!

This is where the money will go in February
I love that this is an initiative which can provide ongoing income and a better life for a woman and her family. I also like that there is a connection to the fibre work we do for recreation (and sometimes for income)

I’d love suggestions of worthy causes for future months,
i know some things I’m thinking of are a sheep from Oxfam Canada, an alpaca from World vision, what else is out there?

So it’s been, ummm, a really long time since I’ve posted. Back when we were in the midst of reno-ing I’d resolved to be much more regualr with my blogging. It didn’t last long…but hopefully I’ll be better now. There’s always a chance.

I kept meaning to post completed pics of the store, then grand opening pics, then I got pics emailed to me by the lovely Angie, then I wanted to post pics of the retreat, but I forgot my camera, then I rearranged everything. Those of you who’ve known me awhile, like say 10 minutes or so will know I have a tendency to do that a lot.

but today I took new pictures

TA DA!

those couches are every bit as comfy as they look!!

YES THAT’S A GINAT DISPLAY OF FLEECE ARTIST/HANDMAIDEN in the pucture above

Tuesday’s are still the night for knitting here at Twist of Fate, would love to see you out some week, or every week, from 7-9.

In other news gearing up for Christmas there is going to be a yarn tasting and sale on Sunday November 15 from 1-5 pm.

Yes I said Sunday. We’re still closed on Sundays which is actually why this will be a sunday event. It’s an excusive sale, you have to pre-register. There are only 20 spots!

It’s an event, and has a small fee, but here’s what you’ll get for your $10…

A goodie bag with sample skeins of 20-30 different yarns (I haven’t decided on all of them yet but will let you know) valued between $30 and $50 (again I’ll know this number better once I’ve finished picking all the yarns

Every yarn in the tasting will be on sale for the one day of the event only at 20% off

Everything else in the store will be on for 5% off, even clearance priced items will knock off an additional 5%

I will be having a magazine back issue sale that day too, buy any 2 mags get 20% off

I am hoping to have sample garments or swatches knit from most of the tasting yarns ready for the event

every person who makes a purchase over $50 will also be entered to win a gift basket

and of course there’ll be refreshments too

there’s only 20 spots so you’ll want to register early!

The painting’s not quite done yet, but we had to get started on the floors, by the end of this week they should both be done, done, done!

This is what the floor looked like after it had been swept and scraped and was ready to have the laminate laid down

kind of uggh right? Well Chris worked hard over the weekend, this is what it looked like about halfway thourgh Saturday

He’s now past that other doorway but apparently I didn’t take a picture yesterday. It looks amazing, I can’t wait for it to be finished for real.

Everything is coming along really well and I’m sure I’ll have no problem being ready for the grand opening on August 29th (it’s a saturday you should come ;) I know it’ll be hard being away for nearly 5 days when I head to Gisbons Landing Fibre Arts Festival on Wednesday and don’t come back Sunday afternoon! The way I figure it by the time I get home all the painting and flooring will be done so it’ll be time for sweeping, mopping window cleaning and getting all those shleves together so that Monday morning I can start filling them!

The only thing I may not have before opening is the couches I’ve been talking about. I went and picked them out yesterday but they may not be able to deliver them in time. So we’ll see. If not before the opening then definitely soon after

pretty yes?

can’t you just see yourself knitting on that?

So the painting on the store started monday night and is almost finished. It should get finished tonight.

My painter is a great guy, and works like a maniac. He works all day painting for his day job, then he works all night painting for his own jobs.

2 nights in the shop until midnight has resulted in this

what a difference eh?

I also went out and paid for the flooring today, which we’ll pick up tomorrow probably and install on the weekend.

it looks like this

and I actually have a piece of it sitting here in the shop if you’re by in the next couple of days you’ll have to be patient with me as I make you look at it while squeaking with excitement.

**glee**

A few weeks ago I got in an order of Hiya Hiya needles. I’d heard great things about them, but never had a chance to use them myself. So I was really excited to get this order.

Okay really here’s the thing. Thy have these little itty bitty 9″circulars for knitting things like socks. They are just about one of the cutest things ever.

When I first cast them on I wasn’t so sure, they took some getting used to but by about the 2nd round of knitting I was in love. They are really so much fun to knit with.

In the pic there I’m using Classic Elite Summer Sox to knit a pair of socks for my man, because every man really needs a pair of girly socks.

In case you’re sitting there thinking some thing along the lines of “oh those are cute, but I don’tknit socks” or “I like my dpns” or I knit my socks magic loop” the Hiya Hiya needles can meet all your needs. I got in a full range of bamboo and steel needles. The bamboo are lovely, that’s what I used for those socks. The stell are hollow and weigh pretty much nothing.

The range goes from 9″ to 60″ and they do dpns too.

There is an interchangeable set but they’re on back order right now:( I’ll be sure to let you know when they come in.

Finally

I know what you’re really looking for is an update on the store. We went to Calgary on the weekend for a friend’s birthday. While we were there we picked up about 1500 pounds worth or shelving at Ikea. So many shelves, so heavy, so gonna be awesome!

The afternoon the painting begins. Maybe I’ll have new pics tomorrow.
